UKIFDA Launches Green Award To Reward Sustainability & Environmental Performance

4th December 2019

The UK and Ireland Fuel Distributors Association (UKIFDA) has today launched the 2020 UKIFDA Green Awards.

Now in its second year, the UKIFDA Green Award sponsored by Oilshield, raises awareness of environmental initiatives within the industry and recognises and rewards those who are leading the way in sustainability and environmental performance for a decarbonised future.

Judges (Oilshield and UKIFDA) are looking for a company who can demonstrate

  • New technology that reduces your environmental footprint either at a depot or at consumer premises.
  • Implementation of risk management policies that have resulted in reduced spills.
  • New fuel or additive that reduces emissions either at a depot or at consumer premises.
  • Supporting charities making a positive impact on the environment.
  • Initiatives for reducing waste or recycling.

Dawn Shakespeare, UKIFDA Membership and Events Manager, comments: “I am delighted to announce the 2020 Green Award. This is only the second year of running this exciting award and we are hoping it will replicate the success of the UKIFDA’s other annual awards – the Depot of the Year Award and the Driver of the Year award which have been running for over 18 years now.

Last year’s winner was Watson Fuels.  The judges of the Green Award recognised their Ledbury depot as the best green initiative in the industry.

The Watson Fuels Ledbury depot was designed to be the most advanced fuel distribution depot in the supplier’s network, reducing the risk of spills, pollution and contamination. Using an innovative approach that utilises both natural and advanced solutions, the site mitigates environmental risk, reduces fuel usage and pollution, all while fitting in with its natural surroundings.

Aimed at finding an important player in the oil distribution industry, the UKIFDA Green Award is being sponsored by Oilshield. Stewart Ower from Oilshield comments “We are delighted with the pro-active approach that Oil Distributors and their supply chain are taking to reduce their environmental impact. This award not only celebrates the green initiatives taken by industry stakeholders, but the shift in the sector’s attitude to environmental risk as a whole. The UKIFDA Green Award provides an opportunity to reward best practice organisations for their improved environmental performance and initiatives.”

The winners of all the UKIFDA awards will be announced at UKIFDA EXPO 2020 Presidents Reception on Wed 10 June at the Exhibition Centre, Liverpool.
