Future Ready Fuel News Response to Warm Homes Plan Jan 2026

Supporting the Industry Through the Transition to Low Carbon Heating

About Future Ready Fuel

Future Ready Fuel is a joint UKIFDA and OFTEC initiative implemented to support the liquid fuel distribution sector

As the UK transitions to low-carbon heating, this initiative ensures that off‑grid households and the businesses that serve them are not disadvantaged by policy decisions that overlook the realities of rural heating.

For many rural properties, replacing a working oil boiler with a heat pump is not always technically suitable or financially viable.

Future Ready Fuel provides evidence, messaging and advocacy needed to promote renewable liquid fuels such as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), which can deliver up to 88% carbon savings with minimal disruption to customers.

The initiative works across the supply chain to:

  • Equip consumers with clear, accessible information on low‑carbon options
  • Provide robust evidence on the performance and benefits of renewable liquid fuels
  • Share live case studies from rural homes already operating on HVO
  • Ensure off‑grid households’ views are represented in Government policy
  • Support a fair, achievable transition that protects customer choice and industry viability

Future Ready Fuel strengthens the industry’s voice and ensures rural communities retain a genuine say in how they heat their homes.

Current Campaign: Stand Up For Your Home Heating

Responding to the Government’s Alternative Clean Heating Solutions Consultation

The Government’s Alternative Clean Heating Solutions Consultation, launched in January 2026, will determine the future heating options available to more than 1.7 million off‑grid homes. The proposals include significant changes that could restrict the use of renewable liquid fuels unless the sector demonstrates strong public and industry support.

This consultation represents a pivotal moment for UKIFDA members and the customers you serve.

The Stand Up For Your Home Heating campaign is a joint effort by UKIFDA and OFTEC to rally rural households and show strong support for renewable liquid fuels. The campaign ensures that customers understand what’s at stake in the consultation and have the chance to voice their opinions.
